These are the ����ý’s terms and conditions for schools and organisations participating in ����ý Young Reporter. They tell you about:

• what the ����ý is responsible for,
• your responsibilities,
• using materials created for ����ý Young Reporter.

We may update these terms from time to time. We’ll let you know if we do. The latest version applies and will always be available on this page.

1. What the ����ý is responsible for

We will:

a) co-ordinate the ����ý Young Reporter project for the ����ý;

b) provide reporting opportunities for schools and organisations;

c) run ����ý events designed to motivate and enthuse young people;

d) host free resources on the ����ý Young Reporter website to help schools and organisations learn about news in their mainstream classes and youth sessions;

e) provide copies of ����ý Young Reporter logos and branding for you to use only in connection with ����ý Young Reporter;

f) handle your personal data in accordance with the ����ý Young Reporter privacy notice;

g) comply with the [����ý’s Child Protection Policy](/aboutthebbc/insidethebbc/howwework/policiesandguidelines/child_protection.html) and the ����ý's Editorial Guidelines;

h) conduct surveys from time to time about ����ý Young Reporter and share the results with educational institutions or organisations for use on their websites and publish the results on the ����ý’s website.

2. Your responsibilities

You will:

a) make sure you have permission from your school’s or organisation’s head or manager to take part in ����ý Young Reporter and to agree to these terms on their behalf;

b) organise your school’s or organisation’s and young person’s participation in ����ý Young Reporter and choose a lead person to work on ����ý Young Reporter, be co-ordinator and principal contact with the ����ý, and to make sure that your participation runs safely on your behalf;

c) make sure that your young people taking part in ����ý Young Reporter are between 11 and 18 years old;

d) before taking part in ����ý Young Reporter, get the parent’s or guardian’s agreement in writing for each young person to take part. If the young person wishes to attend any ����ý Young Reporter events, their parent or guardian will need to complete a form called a ����ý Young Reporter Child Event Attendance Permission Form. You are responsible for making sure that parents or guardians complete this permission form, which the ����ý will provide online (the ����ý will provide the link) and in paper format. The permission form includes permission for the ����ý to use the young person’s contribution and their image in the ways we describe in the form;

e) ensure that ����ý staff are never left alone with young people. Young people must be supervised at all times by a member of your staff;

f) process any personal data collected from ����ý staff in accordance with the Data Protection Act 2018;

g) make sure that all health and safety procedures are followed, including carrying out all risk assessments and taking appropriate action to mitigate risk. We are not responsible for these.

3. Using materials created for ����ý Young Reporter

a) you must make sure that you, your school or organisation, staff, parents or guardians and young people taking part in ����ý Young Reporter understand and agree how materials may be used as we describe below and in the ����ý Young Reporter Child Event Attendance Permission Form (when attending an event). If you or they do not agree, we’re sorry but you must not take part in ����ý Young Reporter;

b) only use the ����ý Young Reporter logos, branded or copyright materials we provide for educational work directly related to ����ý Young Reporter;

c) the intellectual property rights (e.g. copyright) in the text and audio visual materials created by your school or organisation or young person as part of ����ý Young Reporter will remain with your school or organisation or young person and may be used for your own education purposes only, including showing to parents or guardians, students, to other schools, organisations or young people. You must ask us first if you would like to use the materials in any other way;

d) you give us exclusive permission to use the materials created by your school or organisation or young person and their image and the survey results in all media (including TV, radio, online, downloads, vodcasts, podcasts, social media and print) throughout the world forever as we decide including sharing the materials with other schools and organisation. We may edit, alter or cut the ����ý Young Reporter materials in any way we decide and we have editorial control over how we use the materials. We may not attribute the materials to you;

e) the intellectual property rights (e.g. copyright) in the materials created by us will belong to the ����ý alone and you assign your intellectual property rights in your school’s or organisation’s or young person’s contributions to us;

f) we may contact the press and use the text and audio visual materials and photographs of your school or organisation, staff or young person to publicise ����ý Young Reporter;

g) ����ý Young Reporter uses social media and we will regularly post on our social media accounts and re-post (e.g. “re-tweet”) your school’s or organisation’s or staff’s public messages and photographs about ����ý Young Reporter. We may also post on ����ý News social media accounts;

h) you are responsible for managing and running your own social media accounts which may feature material made for ����ý Young Reporter;

i) you recognise that the minimum age for having a social media account is usually 13 years but you understand that if your school or organisation creates materials for ����ý Young Reporter with young people aged under 13, it is possible that their work or images may appear on ����ý social media accounts;

j) if your school or organisation, staff or young person takes part in any of our broadcast programmes or for our website, we may ask you to make sure that parents or guardians sign a ����ý Contributor Release form, which must be completed before taking part. We will provide a copy of the ����ý Contributor Release form in printed format;

k) you, your school, organisation, staff, parent or guardian or young person will not be paid by the ����ý for your participation or contributions.
